PMI is intended to compliment the NHS
and is not a replacement for it, the NHS over the past years
has become over populated with people waiting for all sorts
of treatment, where waiting times can be months and in some
cases over a year.
PMI helps you dramatically reduce these waiting times from Doctor
to Consultant and Consultant to Hospital. It is also important
to remember that PMI is not designed to replace all the services
offered by the NHS. such as accidents and emergency’s,
as they are beyond the scope of most private hospitals.
Most people buy PMI to gain the reassurance of knowing that
treatment is available promptly, if they or their loved ones
become ill or are injured.
There are many types of PMI such as: In-Patient
Care, Out-Patient Care, Full Comprehensive Cover, Limited Cover,
you can add on in some PMI covers certain extras such as: Physiotherapy,
Osteopathy, Psychiatric Care, Home Nursing, Pregnancy Complications,
NHS Cash Benefits and much more.
There are two main types of plan:
1. Personal Plans which cover singles, married
couples, single parent and family plans, children pay child
rate until they are 21 ( as long as they live at home) and up
to 25 if the are in full time education. Ages for adults are
18 until 65 in most cases.
2. Group Schemes (company Schemes) are cheaper
than personal schemes in general, they also have certain tax
advantages too. Most schemes available have to have a minimum
of three employees but there are some available that even only
1 employee will suffice.
Private medical insurance is designed to cover the costs of
private medical treatment for curable short-term illness or
injury (commonly known as acute conditions).
As a private patient you can often choose when treatment will
take place, the specialist who treats you and the hospital.
You will usually have the privacy of an en-suite room, complete
with TV and other home comforts.
Some illnesses and treatments will not be covered by a private
medical insurance policy and these are common to most schemes.
